When I first say this manga, I was actually confused about who was the artist. This may be hard to believe, but I had originally thought that the artist was Asu Tsubaki, the mangaka of He is my Master. Yea, I know. It doesn’t take a very close inspection to see how wrong I was. The art styles are nothing alike.
After my misconception was… annihilated, I started looking into the manga some more. Thus I found out that Last Uniform was indeed not an ecchi book. (Come on, “last uniform”? What other kind of book could it be.)
To my surprise, the book itself is rather innocent. There’s no hint of perverseness in here (well, maybe with one of the characters…) It’s really just a shoujo ai story/stories between girls at an all-girls school.
That actually brings me to my first point, the story structure. There really is no overall plot to this manga. It’s more like a collection of short stories with the same reoccurring characters. Usually the stories involve no more than two or three characters having some kind of lovey relationship quarrel thing. None of the characters are actually in a relationship.
The stories are usually pretty cute in a sitcom-ish kinda way. The plot usually revolves around some kind of misunderstanding or someone trying to impress someone else.
If I do have one complaint, it’s about the art. Sometimes the artist is very inconsistent. I’m talking about stuff like side profiles of characters being very oddly shaped and stuff like that. It only happens sometimes, so it’s not really that much of a deal. It’s hardly noticeable.
All in all, I think this is a nice calm manga to read. I just have one piece of advice for you. If you buy manga in bulk, please don’t buy Vol 2 without being Vol 3 with it. This is for your own piece of mind…
