Well, I just finished Phoenix Wright 3 today. I can easily see why people think this is the best in Phoenix Wright’s trilogy. Unlike the other games, 3 basically has one over-arching story (with two random cases thrown in.) That’s not the reason people like it the best, though. The third game is all about fleshing out the characters. It’s one steaming pile of character development.
My favorite characater in the game has to be the new prosecutor, a mysterious man by the name of Godot. Not much is known about him in the beginning of the game, but you can see that he has some personall grudge against Phoenix Wright. Throughout the game, he never calls him by his name, instead calling him Mr. Trite (or Maruhodou in the Japanese version.) Phoenix Wright has never met him, though.
Out of the four prosecutors in the series, I would have to say that Godot is the best (even though, he admits in his first meeting with Wright, that he had never prosecuted a case before.) Unlike the other three, Godot never resorts to using cheap tricks like hiding evidence or making the witnesses testify a certain way. Instead, he decided to fight fairly and doesn’t let Phoenix Wright get away with even the smallest mistakes.
He also has a more interesting backstory than most of them, as well. Franziska von Karma was pretty weak in character in the 2nd game. She had almost no backstory whatsoever. The only reason she existed was to get revenge for Edgeworth. She wouldn’t have even been half as interesting if she wasn’t the daughter of Manfred von Karma. It’s good that she gets a little development in the third game, as well. I can’t say anything about Godot, but the whole game almost revolves around who he is.
A nice little plus is that one of my favorite composers, Noriyuki Iwadare, composed the score for this game. It is somewhat more jazzy than the two others. If you have time, I’d recommend that you listen Godot - Fragrance of Dark Coffee. Particularily, the version in the Gyakuten Meets Orchestra album.

I haven’t finished the third game yet but I did manage to reach the last case. I thought the Ace Attorney series was a joke… until I played it. I friggen love it… can’t believe I doubted it in the first place. I have to say I love Godot too but mainly with his comments and coffee. Dahlia is scary…
