Remember when I got my laptop back? Well, even though they replaced the sound card, motherboard, wireless Ethernet card, and a whole bunch of other things, they forgot about the one thing: the graphics card. You know, the thing that I originally sent it in to get fixed.

Of course, I called them up and after a while, they decided to just give up on fixing the computer. In exchange for my laptop, they will be offering me store credit up to the cost of the laptop. That may sound nice, since the laptop I originally got was bought a year ago (almost.) Unfortunately, Alienware hasn’t really been keeping up with its laptop lineup. Look at their current laptops, all three of them, there is no way that I can get a laptop that is completely better or on-par with mine. I either have to settle for a worse processor (and AMD Turion) or one with a worse GPU (X1400 or a Geforce 7600.)

I think I’m going to get rid of the laptop shortly after getting it. ASUS just “announced” this computer that seems really appealing. “Announced” meaning that ASUS brought it to Computex and said not a word about it. All we readers at home have to rely one pictures, which kind of sucks since there is some confusion as to which laptop is actually the F8.

The current debate is between:

This:

And this:

It really depends on which one is the 14″ computer and all signs seem to point toward the bottom one being. Personally, I’d rather the top one be the F8; it’s much sexier. Anyway, here are the specs:

  • Core 2 Duo T7700
  • 14.1″ WXGA+
  • Up to 4gb DDR2 677mhz RAM
  • 160gb 5400rpm SATA
  • ATI HD 2600 512mb
  • Intel Wireless 4965AGN
  • 2.4kg / 5.3 lbs
This unit is expected to cost around $1500-1800 USD. Which is pretty nice. Everything about this computer is better than the one I currently have except for its monitor size (and therefore its resolution) being smaller and its HDD being only 5400 rpm. Anyway, I’ll be looking forward to it.
