The map of my current game of Romance of the Three Kingdoms.

As I promised, I’m going to start blogging about my gaming more. As mentioned before, the first game I’m going to blog about is The Romance of the Three Kingdoms. I never knew how long an entry could be until I started writing. I cut this one short since not that much was happening at the time (the first exciting thing that happens is at the end of the post, and for that I decided to leave a cliffhanger. :) )

Hopefully this post isn’t too boring or confusing. This is semi-late in the Yellow Turbans scenario. Actaully, the Yellow Turbans have already been eliminated in the game. He Jin was quite aggressive in hunting them down. Actually, as you can tell from the map, he has acquired quite a large territory. I really hope that I won’t have to take him on one day…

As for me, I’m playing as the sovereign Sun Jian. I started off with one city: Xia Pei. From their I colonized the neighboring city of Ben Hai and conquered the nearest Yellow Turban city. From there, I colonized Shou Chun and conquered two other cities, the last of which was Nan Pi, which seems like it will be the center of a lot of drama in the future. Two months worth of details follow.

The provinces have a bit of a bandit problem. Bei Hai is currently under threat from 4,283 men carrying swords. They are being countered by a force of 1,932 men with pikes led by the young Taishi Ci. His force was originally bigger, but after dealing with two other Bandit armies, his force has been dwindled.

Shou Chun, my western-most city, is also under threat from bandits. It faces an even bigger force than Bei Hai. 7,370 men armed with swords are at the gates of the city. To defend it, Liu Xun and Wu Goutai have marched wth 4,000 men armed with spears. To assist them, Jian Qin has marched with 5,403 men armed with crossbows.

In the east, the recently capture Nan Pi is readying for an attack on Gongsun Zan’s force. It has already built up 36,000 troops, with about 20,000 ready to be sent out as attack troops. Its first target is the weak city of Ji, currently under attack by the almost defeated Ding Yuan. It has 11,000 troops defending it. For the purpose of attacking the city, the sovereign, Sun Jian, is stationed at Nan Pi.

Sun Jing sets out from Xiao Pi to Nan Pi in order to supply the troops stationed there. With him, he brings 16,000 more troops, 7,000 spears, 51,200 pieces of gold, and 79,000 food. A long journey of 120 days is ahead of him. Most likely, by the time Sun Jing arrives in Nan Pi, Sun Jian would have already set out for Ji.

At Ben Hai, Taishi Ci’s forces have dwindled to 900 men. Seeing this, Cheng Yin has set out with 3,000 troops armed with pikes to assist him. The bandit force now composes of only 2,000. Their defeat is imminent.

Meanwhile, the bandit force at Shou Chun has already been annihilated by forces led by Liu Xun and Jiang Qin. They know march the their remianing men, numbering at 8,000, towards the bandit citadel to rid Shou Chun of the threat so that it may continue to grow.

Taishi Chi sets fire to the bandit citadel. It won’t last another ten days.

The bandit forces at eliminated by the remaining Taishi Ci’s forces. After his victory, he set fire to their Citadel. Cheng Yin never saw action against the bandits, but is now attacking their citadel.

In that same day, Jiang Qin used his fire arrows to set fire to the bandit citadel at Shou Chun after Liu Xun failed to do the same twice.

Another new month, another new harvest. Of particular note is poor revenue and harvest of Nan Pi. The amount of gold it gets each month is generally too small for any massive amounts of development to take place. Furthermore, the food supply is hardly enough to send out 10,000 troops to any destination for a significant amount of time. It looks like Sun Jing’s resources wil be much needed before any troops will be deployed.

The forces of Taishi Ci and Cheng Yin have finally overcome the bandit’s citadel, which was destroyed on that same day. They now march back to Ben Hai in order to do much need work.

Nan Pi will have to outfit more troops with spears if it is to be able to repel the enemy forces. Its lack of gold, more than anything else, is its biggest threat.

The forces of Liu Xun and Jian Qin have destroyed the bandit’s citadel. They now march back to Shou Chun in order to further improve the new city.

Foreseeing an attack from Sun Jian, Gongsun Zan has set out a large force of 24,000 men toward Nan Pi. 7,000 cavalry led by Yan Gang, 7,000 more cavalry led by Gongsun Yue, and an additional 5,000 cavalry led by Gongsun Kang. No doubt, Nan Pi will counter this force with a force entirely consisting of spears, but whether it can field a significant amount of spears before the enemy draws too close to the city remains to be seen…

I think I’m going to make the next diary post longer. I’m thinking of something like a whole year (unless one year is particularly exciting. Then I’d have to break it up between posts.)
