Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth :: Finished
When I was writing my previous post about the game, I knew that I would be finishing the game soon, but I didn’t think it would be THIS soon. After about 27 or so hours of playing it on normal, I finally finished the game.
I was actually kind of surprised with the ending of the game. Surprised in the way that I thought something surprising would happen, but nothing did. The whole plot was kind of linear from beginning to end. Odin tells you what you are going to do at the beginning of the game and you strictly adhere to it the full way.
I’m disappointed in a way. I expected the game to have a much better plot after hearing so many people rave about it. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a fun game, but it’s almost nothing more than a dungeon crawler with more character depth (some of the stories of the warriors are quite sad, indeed.)
Besides the plot, the game was pretty good. The battle system is refreshing from the traditional turn-based systems used in most games. Actions are not isuued via menu, but rather a button-press corresponding to a particular character. If you time your presses right, it can lead to devasting special attacks, which become very necessary towards the end of the game. Another nice thing is that there are no random battles. All of the enemies appear on-screen before you fight them, like Xenosaga or Chrono Trigger. It makes the game a bit less annoying.
The music in the game is only decent. Most of it is pretty forgettable. Right now, I can only remember to themes off the top of my head, one of which is the normal battle theme. I started to tire of the normal battle theme in the later chapters. Oh, how many times have I heard that start up.
If you’re a fan of RPGs, but don’t care all that much about the plot, Valkyrie Profile is definately a game you should try. It’s battle system should be a fresh feel for you. If not, I’d recommend you try something else. Now, it’s time for me to work on Silmeria.

did you get the true ending ?

He didn’t! All he got was Ending B. That’s the only explanation. ~_~
Most fans rave about the game because of the path you have to take to get to Ending A. Essentially, you have to make Lenneth be rebellious and not always listen to Odin.
It requires some particular tweaking of Lenneth’s rating at the end of each chapter. Since you’ve played over the entire game once, grab a FAQ to help you out in getting the better ending (which changes significantly how I viewed Chapter 4+).
Do yourself a favor and play on Hard too so you can have full access to extra dungeons and the Seraphic Gate.

Nah, I only got the normal ending. If I’m correct, the true ending differs from the normal ending by the last dungeon. From what it looks like, you go against Odin? I would have liked something like that materialize somewhere in the middle of the game.
–Edit:: I stand corrected (while writing the post.) I’ll try to get the other ending later. I must remark, however, that games with multiple paths should be interesting in all of the paths. There shouldn’t be a path with a dull storyline and another with an interesting one. For example, Radiata Stories, which has two paths, has interesting stories for both of them.

Addition: Don’t play Silmeria before getting Ending A of VP:Lenneth. Silmeria bases itself off Ending A - you won’t understand how things built up late in the game.
Getting Ending A in VP1:Lenneth is not a prerequisite to enjoy Silmeria, but it will defenitely add to your gameplay experience.
Besides, I’ve had to struggle to get Ending A like you after getting Ending B. It shouldn’t be too much hardship for you ~_^
