I seem to be mysteriously acquiring vast amounts of material lately. I’m sure it has nothing to do with my recent expenditures on eBay. I think I did well scoring 6 volumes of Sgt. Frog (Keroro Gunso) for about $22 as well as receiving Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth, Lumines (which you already know), and Metal Gear Ac!d. I’d say that that was a pretty good deal. Despite being busy these past weeks, I have managed to scrap enough time to finish the all of the Keroro Gunso books I recieved.

Win-chan the OS-idol. A cute and busty creation of Mine Yoshizaki
There are no surprises in the book if you’ve already have watched some of the TV series (the only differences are the ecchi level and the rounder designs of the sarge and company. A few of the characters are introduced in a different order which changes some of the chapters a bit.) The first chapter is pretty much the exact same thing as the first episode. Fuyuki and Natsumi and arguing and Natsumi, trying to trick her little naive brother, points at some random direction and proclaims that there is an alien there. By some odd coincidence, Sgt. Keroro, an invader from a foreign planet, happened to be hiding in that direction. Thinking that the humans (Pekopons as he calls them) had discovered his location, he reveals himself to them. His HQ eventually abandons him and he, and his squad that he is separated from, are forced to stay on Earth.

Yoshizaki was also responsible for the design of these two cute Eva figures.
The manga is as every bit as funny as its anime counterpart. It doesn’t take long to spot many of the references to other series (and Tokyopop provides an explanation of the more obscure ones. The art style is a little unrefined for the first book or two, but it really starts improving in the later chapters (think about the earlier chapters of Oh! My Goddess and then think of the newer ones; it’s easy to spot the difference.

I’m really starting to become a fan of Mine Yoshizaki’s artwork. If any of you know of WinChan (the blue-haired ‘OS Idol’,) the person who designed her was Yoshizaki. If his art looks familiar to you, it may be because he was also responsible for the Arcade Gamer Fubuki manga as well as being staffed in the NaNa 7 of 7 anime.

If Win-chan and Mother Hinata from Keroro Gunso were any indication, Yoshizaki is quite a bit more inclined to draw pictures of girls , especially those who are well-endowed in several areas. His other female characters are still very well-designed and quite cute as well.

Note:
If it weren’t for the fact that I am about to move to another dorm soon, I would actually have scans of the manga waiting for you guys. Maybe I can add them later.
